    DALGONA COFFEE: THE VIRAL COFFEE

Jagriti ShuklaBy Jagriti ShuklaMarch 21, 20234 Mins Read

Over the last couple of weeks, you might have noticed people posting photos and recipe of an unusual-looking coffee drink. It is a caramel color cloud on top of a chilled glass of milk, waiting to be stirred together to form a surprising and arm-aching new viral food trend: Dalgona Coffee.

Also known as whipped coffee this DIY drink takes just four ingredients – and some elbow grease – to make.

The trend of making dalogna coffee has become popular while people stay at home amid the Coronavirus, or COVID-19, global pandemic. The recipe is a way to keep individuals entertained at home when coffee shops around the world are closed.

    What is dalgona coffee?

Dalgona coffee is a whipped frothy coffee that’s made from instant coffee and sugar, then put on milk. It’s called dalgona because the fluffy creamy coffee looks like dalgona candy, a candy from South Korea that’s just like honeycomb toffee or sponge toffee. You’ve probably eaten honeycomb toffee before, covered in chocolate.

To make the whipped coffee part, all you need is equal parts instant coffee, hot water, and sugar – typically it’s two tablespoons of each. Using a hand mixer, frother, or a whisk and your strength, beat until the color deepens to a caramel hue and fluffy peaks form; this should take around five minutes if you’re doing it by hand. Scoop onto glass or cup of hot or cold milk of your choice.

    Origin Of Dalgona Coffee

The current trend which shares a name with Korea’s version of honeycomb candy owes its popularity to Korean YouTubers, and what kicked this all off was a Korean TV clip uploaded in January of the actor Jung Il Woo trying a whipped coffee drink in Macau. It started trending because of social distancing and self-isolation. Everyone was at their home and doing live and dalgona coffee caught on, probably you don’t need much to make it and its mesmerizing.

In YouTube tutorials, TikToks, and posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, people all over the world are making dalgona coffee, which consists of milk topped with a thick layer of coffee foam that’s made by vigorously mixing instant coffee, sugar, and water. The drink seems to have earned its name from the foamy coffee topping.

It is one of the popular hashtags which is trending these days. In the pandemic where people are locked at homes is trying the most popular trend these days. It is easy to make a recipe but it needs effort if you are not using hand blender as it is a little tough task.

    History Of Coffee

An Ethiopian Legend has invented the coffee. There, legend says the goat herder Kaldi first discovered the potential of these beloved beans. The story goes that that Kaldi discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night. The word “coffee” entered the English language in 1582 via the Dutch koffie, borrowed from the Ottoman Turkish kahve. In India, it was brought in the 16th century by a Sufi saint named Baba Budan. He brought coffee beans from Yemen.

Honestly, this recipe trend hit at just the right moment. It started when quarantine started to happen because people are called to stay indoors as much as possible and many cafes are closed during this COVID-19 outbreak, people are more open to trying out this drink at home. It is refreshing, fancy, and mesmerizing tat you can’t resist without trying this recipe.
